Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl of just five and moved to Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor by the age of six. Through the years, she attended the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the age of ten she had appeared and played part in many Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was found by agents via her Oxford teacher. After eight consistent auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast to play the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It was also one of the top-rated films of 2001. Opening days and weekends of the sales were record breaking. Critics gave high praise to the film, particularly the young performers. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance.
